Classy and modern, The Gate Hotel Kaminarimon occupies a former office tower in the Asakusa district of Tokyo. From its 13th-floor lobby, through full-length glass, guests can look down upon the rooftops of the popular historical neighbourhood for an unrivalled view of some of Tokyo’s most iconic attractions.  Sensoji temple, the Kaminarimon ‘Thunder Gate’, and the Tokyo Skytree – one of the tallest structures on Earth – can be seen from the panoramic windows.

Staying here is all about the location, but that’s not too say that the hotel isn’t outstanding too.  As is the norm with Tokyo, rooms can be a little bit on the small side, but the design of the place embraces this and works with the canvas it is given.  Subtle lighting and dark wood furnishings, a palette of deep blues and greens, with comfy Slumberland mattresses in each room – the chic decor and boutique feel of the hotel really wouldn’t seem out of place in the trendier parts of London.

Breakfast each morning is served with a view, and the same restaurant serves up French-inspired bites late into the evening.  When the weather is fine, a roof terrace with bar is the perfect place to have a beer – with one of the best vantage points around.
