Like an island of serenity above the hustle-bustle of Shinjuku, the Park Hyatt is one of Tokyo’s best-loved luxury properties. Thanks to its starring role in the acclaimed 2003 movie Lost in Translation the rest of the world learned what the Japanese already knew – that the Park Hyatt was an oasis of calm in the world’s busiest metropolis, and the ideal place to base yourself when in town.

Seamlessly spread across the uppermost floors of three adjacent skyscrapers, the Park Hyatt ticks all the boxes.  There’s a large swimming pool that bathes in natural light atop one tower, and the 52nd floor New York Grill & Bar – serving up sizzling beef and refreshing cocktails –  commands dramatic views across the entirety of Tokyo from another.  On a clear day, breathtaking scenes of the sprawling metropolis greet you, and Mt. Fuji can occasionally be glimpsed on the horizon.

Rooms and suites do not disappoint – sumptuous marble bathrooms, chic Egyptian-cotton sheets, a walk-in closet, and spectacular views abound.  It is difficult to fault the hotel in any way, but with the happening streets of Shinjuku a mere 10-minutes’ amble (or free shuttle ride) away, the biggest problem will be finding time to make the most of the incredible facilities on offer here.  Just ensure you take at least one evening out of your schedule to sit quietly in The Peak Bar, sipping your drink of choice, for an unforgettable look at the glittering city lights below.
