Our morning half-day tour of Chennai starts early with a visit to Kalakshetra, a cultural academy dedicated to the preservation of traditional values in Indian art, especially in the field of Bharatanatyam dance and Gandharvaveda music. Rukmini Devi Arundale founded the academy in January 1936 and here you will witness the Morning Prayer session (which starts at around 8.30am) as well as dance practice at the school. If interested you can also visit the weaving centre, which opens at 10am.
The tour continues, taking in Madras Museum, which is housed in the Pantheon Complex. This is the second largest museum in India and is particularly rich in archaeological collections and has the largest Roman collection outside of Europe.
