The Farmhouse Resort and Spa is an offshoot of the NGO Smiling Gecko, who have been helping combat poverty in rural Cambodia since 2014.  By providing vocational training to people in the poorest parts of the country, and assisting in the education of school children in these areas, the project is helping real Cambodians in a sustainable and remarkable way.

The Farmhouse itself is a countryside escape, boasting incredible spa facilities, a fully stocked gym, plenty of delicious food options, and a couple of magnificent swimming pools.  It is the perfect escape from the bustle of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, either as a mid-holiday rural retreat, or a much-needed bout of relaxation at the end of a busy tour.

There are plenty of opportunities to explore the verdant countryside too, with daily tours available to learn more about local life in the region.  A lot of the ingredients landing on your plate are from the onsite farm, and you can take a free guided stroll around the facilities to learn more about the agricultural projects here any day.

In keeping with the region, and the ethos of the project, accommodation is authentic as you can imagine – without sacrificing home comforts.  The majority of guests will opt to stay in one of the traditionally-decorated Khmer Bungalows – stilted houses, with an upstairs bedroom, vast bathroom, and outdoor terraces, as well as a downstairs open-air space with a daybed for a cool escape with a book, away from the midday sun.  More modern style suites are also available, at ground floor level, for those who do not want to tackle the wooden staircases.
