This was the first accommodation to open its doors on Hoi An’s Cau Dai beach and it remains its most popular resort. Deservedly so. The Victoria Group are Vietnam’s finest exponents of the 4-star resort, as this property exemplifies when it comes to service, range of facilities and comfort levels.

The layout purports to replicate a Vietnamese fishing village and, largely, they have done a reasonable job. It’s an attractive space. There is plenty of character in the public areas and the pond accented gardens are beautiful – the vegetation is sparse but well cared for. The ‘superior river view’ rooms at the rear of the resort in two story blocks, overlooking a small road and a river estuary, are thematically schemed on the terraces in Hoi An’s old town. These entry level rooms are away from the beach, but its not too far. The higher category ‘deluxe beach front’ rooms are in free standing or semi-detached bungalows – it makes good sense to spend the extra and enjoy looking out towards the beach. There are also impressive suite options that line the sand with unimpeded views of the South China Sea. In these ‘deluxe rooms’ there is plenty of natural light from big picture windows and they are decorated in the trademark Victoria neutral tones. The overall effect is invariably pleasant, with a Vietnamese accent.

It is on a pleasant stretch of beach, but many prefer to lounge beside the central pool. It’s hard to pick – each equally idyllic. At night the pool area is lit up in red and green hues and its all in danger of becoming a bit ‘Love Boat’, but they just about manage to stay on the elegant side. The resort is just three miles from Hoi An’s old town, with a regular shuttle bus operating. Alternatively, bicycles are available and the ride is very pleasant.
