This is a hotel which should be considered first and foremost for its location – it is only a short stroll in to Old Town Hoi An, but also only just over 2 miles down the road to Cua Dai beach. If any hotel were to claim to have access to the best of both, it’s the Hoi An Historic Hotel. The ‘Historic’ of the title may allude to the main building of the complex dating back to French colonial times – but it’s difficult to tell now. In the early 1990s many remember this place as a large backpackers emporium, but times have changed and it is now a significantly upgraded, sprawling resort complex. A considerable amount of investment from the owners has left it un-recognisable from what it once was.

There are 150 rooms in low-rise blocks, spaced throughout lush, shady grounds. The rooms are not fanciful in any way, instead very pragmatic: air-conditioning, LCD TVs, bathroom with both a tub and shower, safety boxes, ample cupboard space….etc. You are not staying here for character, instead the afore mentioned location and the facilities – the vast, outdoor pool chief amongst these. The poolside recliners are welcome in the midday heat, after a morning exploring the cobbled streets of Hoi An. There are also tennis courts, Jacuzzi and a kid’s playground – this is a great hotel for families. Dining options consist of barbecue parties, as well as a garden restaurant specializing in some of Hoi An’s most renowned cuisine and traditional folk dance performances. Guests can also take part in daily cooking classes to create authentic Vietnamese culinary masterpieces.

Referred to simply as the ‘Hoi An Hotel’, it has got everything going for it – well located, good range of facilities, wonderful pool, friendly staff, many of whom have worked here for decades and all at a very reasonable price.
