In the northern areas you’ll find the great ancient cities such as Sigiriya, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa; these are all now UNESCO World Heritage sites. More centrally you’ll find the Buddhist capital of Kandy, home to the Buddha’s tooth, along with glorious tea plantations that look the same now as they did 150 years ago. Further south you’ll come across idyllic beaches, national parks and the colonial town of Galle.
