Rovos Rail is a labour of love, and one of the most remarkable way to travel around South Africa. Historic rolling stock dating back around a century to the grand age of rail travel has been restored to its original glory, a feast of polished wood, leather furnishings and polished brass fittings. A journey on the train really is a journey back in time. The cabins are large enough for a big double bed and come with ensuite bathrooms. Food is taken very seriously on board and your dinner will be a full silver-service affair; lounge cars for a quiet drink can be found on the train, whilst the rear-most carriage is an observation car, complete with a small outside seating area. Capital Park is the home of Rovos Rail, in Pretoria, and steam engines will draw you into and out of this restored art deco station, the ideal way to begin or end your time on board.
