Heading out of Salalah along the coastline towards the Yemeni border, the shoreline rises and becomes more rocky than sandy. Partially collapsed caves at Mughsayl have created wonderful blowholes. In the right conditions, a building roar presages great fountains of seawater exploding up out of these blowholes to soak delighted spectators. Not far past Mughsayl the steep cliffs and mountain ranges tower and hide the “Furious Road”, a strip of tarmac defiantly twisting repeatedly back on itself in an effort to conquer the peaks and make its way into Yemen.
