It’s no surprise that the dramatic undulations and soft golden sand of the Namib is perfectly suited to quad biking expeditions. Forging a determined route over the highest dunes and into the deepest valleys, quad bikes allow riders to reach areas that are inaccessible even to 4WD vehicles. Excursions last for roughly an hour, travelling within a 25 mile radius of Swakopmund so you can really feel you’ve travelled into the remote heart of the desert, glad there’s a guide along to ensure you don’t get lost. There is some debate as to the environmental impact quad bikes have on life in the dunes, but the best operators are responsible in their methods and offer a thrilling exploration of otherwise unobtainable desert climes.
