Spread over four buildings and with a history dating back over 100 years, the American Colony Hotel is one of the most infamous properties in Jerusalem. The building was set up by a family that travelled to Jerusalem from the USA in the late 19th century, and developed itself over the next few decades as a place for Western travellers and pilgrims to stay in the city when they had no other place to go, which explains the curious name. Despite being handed over to a hotel group in more modern times, the hotel is still run by descendants of the original founders.

Guests can choose from simple yet tasteful classic rooms all the way up to decadent and lavish suites with four poster beds. The hotel is often praised for its pristine gardens – each building has its very own garden space – and a range of bars and restaurants provide excellent backdrops for your down-time in the city.
