Hotel Kanra strikes a resounding balance between the modern and the traditional.  Somewhere between an airy, minimalist hotel, and a functional yet intimate Kyoto machiya (wooden town house) the Kanra is a wonderful place to bed down during your stay in this ancient city.  A short walk north of Kyoto Station, sitting opposite the wondrous Higashi-Honganji Temple, the hotel is well located for the buses, trains and metro that you will inevitably utilise throughout your stay.

Even the smallest guestroom offered in the Kanra is spacious and sumptuous, immaculately clean, with all the amenities you could ask for.  Boasting a sizeable bed and separate comfortable living area, the rooms are more akin to a private Japanese house than to normal hotel rooms, and the vastly generous suites in the annex building even have their own terrace spaces to relax within.

The on-site Hanaroku restaurant has deservedly won a number of awards, specialising in mouthwatering Wagyu beef, but the more wallet-friendly Kitchen Kanra serves up some delicious wood-fired pizzas too.  This is unquestionably one of our favourite hotels in Kyoto – suitable for anyone who wants to experience the local flavour of this eternal city, without skimping on the modern touches and features of a boutique hotel.  Perfect for couples, the cedarwood bath tubs put the ultimate finishing touches to this beauty of a property.
