Khutzeymateen Provincial Park is a large grizzly bear sanctuary nestled in the vast wilderness of coastal British Columbia, and indeed the area has one of the highest concentrations of grizzly bears in North America. To access the park from Prince Rupert you take a spectacularly scenic boat transfer through Chatham Sound then inland along rugged fjords before reaching the edge of the park. Here you continue to explore by boat, watching for bears feeding in the estuaries and inlets and learning about this diverse coastal environment. Along the way you will also look for porpoises, seals, sea lions and a range of birdlife as well as hear stories of the historic native villages which dot these remote shores. This is a truly memorable adventure – be sure to bring your binoculars and camera!
Note: this excursion operates from mid-May to mid-July only.
