The Victoria Sapa Resort was the only truly luxury option in the remote north for many years – nothing else has quite compared. It is perched majestically above the picturesque town of Sapa, only a short walk from the town. The private gardens provide breathing space other properties in Sapa lack – it is quite serene. This resort was a pioneering project when the Victoria Group established it back in the late 1990s in, what was then, largely unknown Sapa. Built in classic mountain chalet style across three levels, timber and stone feature heavily. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming – especially when it’s cold and the fireplaces are lit.

The resort features 77 functional and comfortable rooms, each with wood flooring and with private terraces offering views over the town, the resort’s lush gardens and Mount Fansipan. However, you get the impression that they could have done more with the bedrooms – for such an elegant resort it is frustrating that the rooms are lacklustre. However, that is not to say they are uncomfortable. They are also well heated and there is always plenty of hot water available, important as temperatures can sometimes dip low in Sapa.

The resort comes in to its own is during one of the frequent days of miserable weather that blights the region. It has the range facilities to keep you both entertained and comfy. Most notable are a large heated indoor swimming pool and a spa with experienced staff, offering treatments and therapies in peaceful surroundings. There are also tennis courts and mountain bikes for the irrepressibly active. The restaurant is open all day and serves local and international dishes using fresh seasonal ingredients, as well as some more traditional fare more associated with the Alps such as cheese fondue! The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed in the large dining hall especially on a cold night near the open fire. In the summer months you can dine alfresco on the terrace, with views to Mt Fansipan as your backdrop!
