Inaugurated in 1930, the Grand Hotel is now perhaps the least known of the Saigon’s French-era hotels. This is a shame and belies its impressive exterior façade and wonderful location on Rue Catinat (Dong Khoi Street). Though not living up to the ‘Grand’ aspirations of the hotel, the interior is perfectly comfortable with modern facilities, always spotlessly clean and provides outstanding value-for-money considering its central location. Service is resolutely helpful.

The Grand is most definitely not one of the many ubiquitous purpose built 4-star properties which dominate Saigon. With its nice swimming pool and pleasant central courtyard, The Grand is a thoroughly decent hotel. It is in-fact better described as two hotels – the original building and its newer extension. Those looking for a sense of history should stay in the original wing, where traces of old-world charm still just about exist with parquetry floors, rickety lift and large French windows. In either wing we can be sure that you will appreciate that you are staying in the very centre of Saigon, at a very reasonable price, in what once was one of the city’s most glittering address’s.
