Such is the local law, in Nha Trang you are not permitted to build directly on to the public beach in the centre town. Therefore, the answer is simple. Create yourself a white sand beach just around the end of the bay, protect it at both ends with rocky outcrops and then build your own, super-luxurious 5 star resort with restricted access. Job done….and, it must be said, a job done very well indeed. It is just a few minutes from the bright lights and excitement of Nha Trang’s nightlife, but a world away in terms of ambience. The ‘Amiana on the Bay’ is peaceful, where late evenings should spent on your private terrace looking out over the beautiful bay, the flickering lights of the local fishing fleet punctuating the horizon.

As the resort is super-new and because space was not at a premium, the rooms are generous in size and luxuriously equipped to the very highest spec. There is all you would expect and more, from oversized TV’s through to high thread Irish linen. The rooms have indoor/outdoor sheltered bathrooms with cool, lush outdoor gardens, each featuring a massive hand-carved stone bathtubs and rain showers. Regrettably, the rooms on top-floor only have indoor bathrooms – so we will always look to secure ground floor. Additionally, there are also sumptuous two and three bedroom suites, some with private pools.

There is a huge salt-water swimming pool (2,500 square meters!) and also a fresh water pool – smaller, but only in comparison. The new Spa Amiana has high hopes to be famed for its hot mud baths – its probably worth giving them a go as they try establish their reputation. Dining at Amiana adopts an “anything you want & whenever and wherever you want it” philosophy. At ‘Bacaro’, they like to serve a wide selection of Asian and international dishes cicchetti style – meaning food is presented in small portions and then shared between you, enjoyed at any time of day. For those who take food too seriously to share, traditionalist can chose from the fine a-la-carte menu. In LB’s Bar and on the terrace, you can also enjoy hand-rolled Cuban cigars while listening to live jazz music from the resident band. Its that kind of place.

This is a remarkable new resort, which is now earnestly trying to build its reputation as Vietnam’s best. Expect great things.
