Only opened in late 2013, Aman’s first Vietnamese venture is certain to raise the bar once again. Not only is the Amanoi the latest addition to Aman’s chic portfolio across Asia and beyond, it also puts the spotlight on a previously un-explored stretch of coastline – Vinh Hy Bay & Nui Chua National Park. How long did Aman spend looking to find this paradise, one wonders?! It’s wide sweeping bays, steep rocky cliffs, giant boulders all back-dropped by remote mountain ranges. 35 miles south of Nah Trang, you find yourself heading in the opposite direction to everyone else, as most larger resort hotels are north of the city. The area is also a marine reserve, home to a large variety of sea corals, tropical fish species, and hawksbill and green sea turtles.
There are 31 Pavilions, many with private swimming pools, and they are all universal in design – which is the signature ‘Aman’ style. Each offers a combined living and sleeping area, as well as a timber sundeck with loungers and amenities include a king-size bed, sofa, writing desk, LCD TV with international channels, sound docking system, wireless Internet, mini-bar and espresso machines. Aspect is what varies – some are mountain view, others ocean view. The Pavilions are perched far enough from the sea for the passing fishing boats to be a distant hum, but close enough to feel connected. Wonderfully, those that feature private pools allow for a decent and invigorating swim – not simply the paddling pool’esque’ plunge pools of other resorts.
As with all Aman’s, the spa is a highlight. Further, the resort has two dining options – one down by the beach pool and the other at the Central Pavilion occupying the hilltop – a true architectural feat with the best views of the area. The resort’s Library offers a range of reading materials, together with a music collection and board games. Next to the afore mentioned Central Pavilion is the Cliff Pool, one of two swimming pools. The second is located at the Beach Club, which overlooks the white-sand beach and offers dining and lounging areas, as well as a range of water sports equipment.
