The suburb of Umhlanga is a pretty beachside hub which now has the added benefit of being near the new Durban King Shaka airport. Whether you’re just passing through Durban or spending a couple of nights here, the Protea Hotel Umhlanga is a great base: as well as proximity to the airport, the hotel is a short stone’s throw from the beach. The rooms are sizeable (especially given the price) and the decor is modern and elegant. It all adds up to an attractive package.
