Dating back over a century, this colonial country house has been decorated with furnishings and artifacts dating back even further to really acknowledge the history of the region. The rooms are very spacious and tastefully furnished, and some are located in the Shearers Lodge building in the glorious garden. Whilst the grading is 3-star, in reality the service, quality of the accommodation, and welcome you’ll receive make this much more like a 4-star lodge, so it offers wonderful value-for-money.
Amakhala Private Game Reserve is around 7,500 hectares and until the turn of the millennium was farmland owned by a number of families, some of whom were 5th generation settler farmers. They joined their land together and made a game reserve, which now offers excellent game viewing (with four of the Big Five being routinely sighted: elephant, rhino, lion, and buffalo. Leopards live up to their elusive reputation!) as well as wonderful scenery with the Bushman’s River cutting a swathe through the reserve.
