Part of the Klein Aus Vista project of amalgamated farmlands, situated on the Gondwana-Sperrgebiet Rand Park just outside Aus, Eagle’s Nest is the most enticing base from which to explore the varied attractions of Namibia’s remote south-west. There are just eight stone chalets nestled against granite boulders on a mountain slope, with earthy colours to blend in seamlessly with their rugged surrounds. Looking the other way from the chalets, there are sweeping views of the boundless desert and some truly exceptional sunsets.
Inside, the design and materials keep the chalets cool during the hottest desert months, while a fireplace provides extra warmth for the cold winter nights. Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom and a private veranda with superb views, along with a small kitchenette, as meals are served at the Desert Horse Inn restaurant, roughly a 15 minute drive away. For independent souls, breakfast and dinner packs are available on request, and you can bring your own supplies if you don’t want to use the main restaurant. There is a truly secluded, peaceful atmosphere to a stay at Eagle’s Nest that is symptomatic of Namibia’s panoramic horizons and huge empty quarters.
