Ksar Ighnda is a great example of how traditional construction techniques and styles can be used today; although purpose-built, it directly adjoins far older buildings (in various states of disrepair) so it actually looks like part of the original fortified village. The pisé (mud-brick) walls of the corridors give way to smooth plastered walls in the rooms, which are reasonably sized, and simply furnished with Moroccan touches. The rooms all surround the central courtyard, dotted with shady greenery, a refreshing pool and tinkling fountain. A fairly large hotel, and with no illusions of grandeur, Ksar Ighnda is a great, sensibly priced option; throw in the location – close enough to Ait Ben Haddou to afford views of the famous kasbah from the roof terrafes – and it becomes a very appealing option.
