For many people, the romance of the desert (in their imagination) isn’t complete without a ride on a camel, and it’s very easy to organise one. We’d advocate booking before you go as many of the local ad-hoc camel rides are organised by cowboys (camelboys?). Unless you’re experienced, we’d also suggest keeping the rides short: the motion of a camel is an acquired taste (like sailing in big waves) and they can be very fractious animals! But there’s no doubt that cresting a dune in the setting sun on the back of a camel is one of those experiences you really want to try.
