There are two ways to appreciate Mujib Gorge, the easy way or the adventurous way. The easy way is hard to avoid when travelling the King’s Highway, as the road winds along the edge of this gorge that drains from the plateau down to the Dead Sea, affording superb views of this natural chasm, the lower portion of which is now filled with reservoir water. For the more adventurous, Mujib provides a chance to experience canyoning; in the upper reaches of the gorge the walls are narrow and steep, with a large stream flowing between them. Scrambling down the gorge, you move from deliciously cool rock pool to deliciously cool rock pool, sometimes sliding down sandstone worn smooth by centuries of water action: you have to be prepared to get wet and you’ll also need to be reasonably fit.
