The Hotel Granvia in Okayama is directly connected to the main JR train station, making it an unbeatable location for anyone looking to base themselves here to explore the wider Setouchi area. Although primarily a business hotel, the staff are incredibly helpful to tourists too – pointing out the nearby city attractions, and helping with train times if you are looking to visit Kurashiki, the islands in the Seto Sea, or if you are continuing onto your next major stop.
More spacious than you would expect in Japan, rooms have everything you could want for a stay – though the decor could be considered a little dated and luck-lustre when compared to glitzier places in more touristy destinations. What the Granvia does offer though is facilities aplenty – a number of restaurants onsite with great views over the city, an indoor swimming pool and sauna (though charges do apply) and even its own hair and beauty salon. If you are looking for a convenient hotel to spend a few days in while you explore this less-travelled part of Japan, you could do far worse than to stay here. With wonderfully accommodating staff, a great breakfast spread, and the ability to almost fall out of bed onto your train, this is a top pick for us when we’re in Okayama ourselves.
