On the riverbank of the Miyagawa, looking down upon the famous Takayama Old Town, the Honjin Hiranoya Bekkan is in the perfect spot for visitors to this magical city. The iconic red Nakahashi bridge spans the water right outside, with the many tastes and treats of this beautiful city being just a stones-throw away. Be sure to head to the nearby daily morning market to try some of the unique and interesting snacks and delicacies available from the Hida region.
Striking a nice balance between traditional ryokan inn and simple hotel, each room in the Bekkan comes with comfortable futon beds on tatami mats, alongside modern touches like TV, en-suite facilities and a minibar. A free shuttle can pick you up from the train station and bike rental is possible through the front desk staff.
Rooms are half-board, as is the norm with such properties, allowing you to enjoy a delicious meal of local food each evening – including the famous local beef. This can even be brought to you in your own room by your personal server, for a private and stress-free experience. Hot spring baths (onsen) can be enjoyed by all guests, but be aware that these are public facilities – separated into male and female areas. As is customary, bathing is always done after having washed yourself completely, and without a stitch on – it’s the Japanese way!
