The Hotel Nagasaki is less than 10-minutes’ walk north of the main train station, on the way towards the Atomic Bomb Museum and Peace Park.  Sizeable rooms boast wonderful views from the upper floors, and the quaint, unmistakably ‘retro’ local trams stop right outside, allowing easy exploration of this fascinating city.

Essentially a business hotel – as Nagasaki is yet to be blessed with the tourism experienced in other parts of Japan – this Best Western property is, nevertheless, a great choice for anyone visiting the region.  With a grandiose lobby, and emphatically helpful staff, the hotel is a firm favourite of ours.  Rooms are gigantic when compared to similar hotels in other cities, and the beds are thankfully large and comfortable. Inoffensively decorated, they are clean and classically furnished – but don’t expect anything that will wow you!  That said, with so few other tall buildings around, the view from your window is pretty impressive – and breakfast, served on the 15th floor, benefits from similarly glorious morning panoramas.

There are a few restaurants within the hotel, with Kaname serving up a particularly delicious array of Japanese meals for lunch or dinner.  Although you are a little bit of a distance from the centre of Nagasaki, there are some great dining options near to the main JR train station, just down the road.  The hotel will happily organise a taxi for you too, should you wish to have more of a late evening out in Nagasaki itself.
