Located just outside Ranthambore lies Khem Villas, a jungle camp home to chic and stylish eco cottages, tents and rooms. The camp spans almost 12 acres that are lush with indigenous trees, forest grassland and small lakes.  It’s not uncommon to see jackals, jungle cats, hyenas, desert fox and crocodiles here. The colonial style main house is wrapped in tranquil and fragrant plants; it’s here where the set menu meals are served. Please note all the meals are vegetarian. The accommodation here is gorgeous: simple and tasteful. There are three options: Standard Rooms (in the main building), Luxury Cottages and Luxury Tents. The four Standard Rooms are cheaper and arguably less luxurious than the tents and cottages. They boast polished concrete floors, white washed walls, and air conditioning. The Luxury Tents are nestled into the gardens on the edge of the grounds, overlooking Ranthambore. These are beautifully adorned, with comfortable beds and bamboo shower cubicles. The Luxury Cottages are the most luxurious. Made of concrete with thatched roofs, these have private porches, ideal for bird watching. They also have private outdoor bathtubs.  Close by to the rooms is a small plunge pool, a cosy Ayurveda spa, a guest lounge and reading room.  The owners of Khem Villas have been heavily involved with tiger conservation over four decades; they also run a hospital and school in the local area. The owners also support a small enterprise called “Dhonk” to encourage the mogiya tribes that have been one of the main tribes engaged in poaching of Tigers from inside Ranthambhore with an alternate employment so that they can slowly wean themselves away from poaching. On request, they are happy to take you to see these projects to help you understand the effort being made to help save the tiger in Ranthambore and educate the local people to assist in its conservation. This is one of our favourite options near Ranthambore and our go to for responsible tourism with a positive impact.
