Sitting on the banks for a 100-year old gleaming lake, RAAS Chaatra Sagar is a remote rural property made up of magical hand-stitched tents with inimitable views. There’s no sign of habitation here, just lakes and grasslands replete with birds and tropical wildlife. There are 13 tents in total, 11 sitting on the dam and a further two on top of the nearby hill. They are furnished beautifully using local fabrics, hand painted floors and locally crafted furniture. They all have en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold water, WIFI, as well as soft bathrobes and slippers. Time honoured family dishes are served using locally produced organic vegetables. Dinner is usually served at 8pm with a fixed three-course meal. You can spend the day doing absolutely nothing but relaxing, but for those who prefer adventure then there are village and farm tours, bird watching and jeep excursions on offer.
Location
Nimaj sits less than three hours east of Jodhpur and five hours west of Jaipur and has been made famous due to RAAS Chaatra Sagar; one of India’s most idyllic tented camps that is perched on a dam, just outside of the village. The dam dates back to the early 19th century; it was built by a powerful nobleman to conserve the monsoon rains. The area is rural, teeming with bird life, and is a quintessential rural India. RAAS Chaatra Sagar sits between Jaipur and Jodhpur, making it a fantastic respite from two of Rajasthan’s most bustling cities.
