This journey takes you up into the foothills of the mighty north-western Himalayas. This region of India is wonderful, with charming towns and villages home to mountainous backdrops. Our trip starts with flights from London to Amritsar, home to the glistening Golden Temple. Truly spectacular. Then, journey to Dharamsala, an incredibly scenic area home to the Dalai Lama. On the way to Shimla, stop in the villages of Pragpur, Garli, or a tea region near Palampur. Spend time here taking in the beautiful countryside.
The drive to Shimla is a long day but well worth it. Shimla has become famous for its colonial toy train (a UNESCO World Heritage site). This hill station was the original British getaway during colonial rule, and this can be seen throughout its charming architecture. You can slowly descend from Shimla on the narrow gauge railway or travel by car to Chandigarh. This is the jumping-off point for the airport or train station to bring you back to Delhi.
If time permits, I highly recommend possibly extending your time in this area. Consider an overnight stay in Chandigarh to discover the Rock Garden. If you want to incorporate soft trekking speak to me about the opportunities around Shimla district. This region is famous for their apple orchards and the apple blossom is stunning to witness in spring time.
