Bylakuppe was among the first refugee camps set up in South India to house the thousands of Tibetans that fled Tibet following the Chinese invasion in 1959. Bylakuppe is now the second largest Tibetan settlement outside of Tibet and is home to approximately 10,000 Tibetans (and approximately 3300 monks). Not to be missed is Namdroling Monastary, home to the spectacular Golden Temple. Other places of interest in the vicinity are Chikklihole Reservoir and Cauvery Nisargadhama, which can be discussed with your guide.
