Kanha is nestled in the Maikal Hills, along the south eastern fringe of Madhya Pradesh. The park is large with a clearly demarcated core area and buffer zone. Three of the five zones, Kisli, Kanha and Mukki, are within the core area and are open for tourists. The park safaris are a mix of 4×4 open jeep safaris and short duration elephant rides (subject to availability of elephants and success of tracking). The morning ride normally lasts four to five hours. The park is best known for its tigers as well as leopard, jungle cat, wild dog, sloth bear, swamp deer, sambar, barking deer, gaur and wild ox. It’s also home to a plethora of birds; the park offers excellent birding opportunities with approximately 300 species. Please note the park remains open from mid-October until the end of June.
