This historic half-day city tour starts in Old Goa, the former capital of Goa. Around the square are churches and cathedrals, the most prominent being the Basilica Bom Jesus that houses the remains of St Francis Xavier. Nearby on “Holy Hill” is the Convent of St Cajetan that’s dedicated to St Catherine. Inside you’ll find catacombs with the embalmed bodies of Portuguese viceroys and archbishops. Along the way you and your guide will pass several other churches that you may like to visit. Afterwards you’ll head to Panjim, which under the Portuguese became the new capital of Goa, transforming it from a fishing village into a small town. Panjim still retains its old world charm with typical Portuguese architecture. With your guide you will walk through Fontainhas, Goa’s Latin quarters; stroll through the fruit and vegetable market and finally end at the Mahalaxmi Temple dedicated to the Indian goddess of wealth.
