Bundi is a picturesque little town whose medieval atmosphere has more or less remained. The town’s Rajput legacy is well preserved in the shape of the huge Taragarh Fort; it was once the capital of the Hadachauhans. Bundi didn’t amount to much more than a modest market town but despite this the old town is full of crumbling havelis, old bazaars, and a huge number of flamboyant step wells that our half day tour explores. The palace is also worth a visit in itself; with few visitors making their way to it, you might have it and the beautiful wall murals to yourself. The drive into the town is particularly nice as the road runs along the hillside overlooking the valley opposite the fort. Views over the town and surrounding countryside are excellent.
