The regal state of Rajasthan is the India you’ve been dreaming of. If you only visit India once in your lifetime, this is the destination. Iconic forts and palaces, busy cities, and bustling bazaars contrast with epic wildlife, sandy deserts, and rural villages.  Don’t miss Jaipur‘s Pink City, the City Palace on the shores of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort in the Blue City of Jodhpur, or for the adventurous, the sandstone living fort of Jaisalmer surrounded by the Thar Desert.

There is so much more to this state than its most famous sights and we urge you to step off the beaten path and explore. Take a breather and a few days out to immerse yourself in typical Rajasthani village life.

Spend some time in places like Ramathra, Chambal, and Narlai. This slower pace brings a welcome change and a different perspective to your trip. Stay in beautifully restored ancestral homes, wildlife lodges, and noble forts.

For wildlife enthusiasts, Ranthambore National Park is home to around 80 Bengal Tigers, so sightings are good. It is the most easily accessible of India’s national parks, reached from Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur with good road and rail connectivity.

Agra, home to a wonder of the world, the Taj Mahal, is geographically located in the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh, and logistically easy to include in any Rajasthan itinerary. The Taj Mahal, despite the cliches, in our opinion, is a must-see for any first-time visit to Rajasthan.  Ask us about local Rajasthani festivals as we would love you to witness one of these colourful celebrations whilst you are travelling.  Amongst the key celebrations are Diwali in November, the Kite Festival in January, Desert Festival, Sufi festival and Cattle Fair in February, and Holi in March, (dates are dependant on the moon cycle so vary year to year).

We suggest at least two weeks to explore Rajasthan. It is unique, like nowhere else on earth!
