Benefiting from a superb location in a 400 hectare private reserve which attracts nesting quetzals, the Savegre Hotel is an ideal base for your time in San Gerardo. The location and the amenities here mean the lodge does attract regular bird watching groups, but if you are looking to catch a glimpse of the resplendent quetzal there really is no better place to stay in Costa Rica. The lodge has a good network of cloud forest trails as well as ample areas in the gardens where you can simply sit and listen to the sounds of the birds. Rooms are simply furnished in warm woods but are very comfortable, and all have their own heating – something you will find surprisingly welcome during San Gerardo’s chilly nights.
