Yoho National Park, located just off the Trans-Canada Highway, offers a great alternative to the more popular Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. The park features some of the Rockies’ most striking landscapes, including Emerald Lake, with its vibrant turquoise waters, and Takakkaw Falls, one of Canada’s tallest waterfalls, plunging 373 metres (1,224 feet). Hiking trails range from easy walks like the Emerald Lake Loop to more challenging alpine treks around Lake O’Hara. Along the way, you can also explore the Natural Bridge, a fascinating rock formation shaped by the Kicking Horse River, and the Burgess Shale fossil beds, which reveal a glimpse into ancient marine life.
The park is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, giving you the chance to spot bears, elk, mountain goats, and various bird species. Winter brings opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, while the summer months are ideal for kayaking, canoeing, or simply taking in the peaceful beauty of the Rockies.
