Posada de la Laguna is a pretty little local style lodge located inside the Ibera Natural reserve and also in the small laidback village of Colonia Carlos Pellegrini, great for a slice of rural northern life in this sparsely populated region. This is a really traditional posada right on the Ibera lagoon and run by a local host and her team of friendly staff. It’s a great location for the wetlands for spotting flora and fauna as well as offering a good value option The lodge’s gardens run down to the lagoon and the hammocks on the vine-covered verandahs are a great place to while away an hour or two.
The owner Elsa is usually on hand to give a personal welcome in this intimate 7 room lodge, which feels like a real home from home. Food is locally sourced and the menus change daily according to seasonal produce. This is not overt luxury but rather cosy, comfortable and yet still elegant in a natural way using handmade tiles and shutters and crisp linens. Your stay includes all meals and activities, with especially good local guides for their boat trips on the lagoon to spot birds and mammals as well as horse-riding, canoe or walking tours. You can also borrow bikes here to explore the area or learn Guarani and meet local farmers in the village.
