Los Ponchos is a really characterful and charming hotel near El Calafate that offers good value in a quieter setting a little bit away from town with a great view over the lake. It’s a more quirky property with a unique collection of South American Art, rather lovely gardens and also some self-catering accommodation facilities if you don’t always want to be eating out or are travelling as a family or group of friends. It is about 3 kms from El Calafate centre but they do offer bicycles for easy trips into town or the friendly staff will happily arrange taxis for you.

The cosy rooms feature Latin American artwork and views over Lake Argentino in a selection of apartments for up to six people, so it is really flexible accommodation and more spacious if you want to use this as your base for a longer stay to explore the region. All rooms have a fully equipped kitchenette and modern and chic décor. Breakfast is delivered to your apartment or you can take it in leisurely style in one of the long glazed galleries that overlook the gardens.
